A clip-on iris (or iris diaphragm) is a mechanical adjustable aperture that attaches directly to your eyeglasses. It is primarily used in precision target shooting (such as ISSF-compliant rifle and pistol disciplines) to dramatically sharpen your focus and depth of field.
How It Works Adjustable Aperture: The iris features adjustable leaves (typically ranging from 1 mm to 12 mm in diameter) that you can widen or narrow.
Increased Depth of Field:
By looking through a tiny pinhole, the light entering your eye is restricted, which forces both your front sight, rear sight, and the target to appear in sharp, simultaneous focus.
Flip-Up Design:
Most models feature a spring-loaded rubber clamp that allows you to clip it onto standard powered or non-powered glasses. You can easily flip it up out of the way when you are not shooting.
Fine-Tuning:
It can usually be shifted, adjusted up/down, or locked into place to perfectly align with your dominant eye and natural head position.
